SC seeks Centre's reply on pleas seeking removal of protesting farmers from Delhi borders

As the farmers protest continues for 21 days on Wednesday (December 16), the Supreme Court heard a plea seeking immediate removal of protesting farmers who have blocked several border points of Delhi.

New Delhi: As the farmers' protest continues for 21 days on Wednesday (December 16), the Supreme Court heard a plea seeking immediate removal of protesting farmers who have blocked several border points of Delhi.

The farmers had started their protest against the new laws on November 26, and have been sitting for agitation on the roads at several borders leading to the national capital.

The farmers have been protesting against the three newly enacted farm laws - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Meanwhile, talks between the Centre and the farmer union leaders have all ended in a deadlock.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ambavat) has announced that on Thursday at 10 am, the Chilla border will be closed - both sides. He said farmers are reaching there in large numbers. Currently, traffic on one side (Delhi to Noida) is running smoothly.

Yesterday, the Indian Farmers Union (Ambawat) threatened to completely shut down the Delhi-Noida Chilla Border. There are two different factions, one faction Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) which has been there for the last 16 days and has blocked the way from Noida to Delhi. Yesterday, the group of Ambavat has been threatening that we will close the other side in support of the farmers. The government should meet its demands soon.

Central Minister Sanjeev Balyan urged farmers for a talk. he said, "We appeal that farmers come for talks. Every problem is solved by negotiation. Do not make it a question of stubbornness and ego. The farms bills are in the interest of farmers. The assurance of amendment was given, but it is not right to withdraw the bill. The farmers have formed this government. And this government is for the farmers only."

Balyan accused Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal of trying to take political advantage of the situation.

Farmers have stopped traffic on Chilla border, heavy police force has been deployed there. The DCP of Noida Rajesh Yash says that at the moment the route has been diverted and that the Police are currently taking to the farmers to open the road for traffic.

Noida's Chila border can be closed once again by farmers. The farmers sitting on the border say that if their people coming from borders of Uttar Pradesh are not allowed to join the agitation then the Chila border will be completely closed. Traffic is going normal at Chila border now.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday lashed out at his former ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the farmers` protest against the three agricultural sector laws. He also accused the ruling central government of being the "real tukde-tukde gang" and attempting to destroy national unity by maliciously "pushing patriotic Punjab into communal flames" for political gain. "BJP is the real tukde-tukde gang in the country. It has smashed national unity to pieces, shamelessly inciting Hindus against Muslims and now desperate setting peace loving Punjabi Hindus against their Sikh brethren especially farmers," he wrote on Twitter.
