We will uphold the decision about renaming Maharashtra cities: Devendra Fadnavis
Whatever decisions were taken in the last cabinet, about renaming, we will uphold those decisions as we are of the same view. We will have to re-affirm those decisions as the last cabinet wasn't as per rules as Governor had already asked the govt to face floor test, said Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra Assembly.

Mahatma Gandhi's grandson demands Umar Khalid's release
Four international organisations, along with scholars Noam Chomsky and Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, have condemned the "incarceration" of former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid and demanded his immediate release from jail in the North-East Delhi riots case.
Hindus for Human Rights, Indian American Muslim Council, Dalit Solidarity Forum and India Civil Watch International joined Chomsky and Gandhi, in demanding the immediate release of Khalid, who was arrested on September 13, 2020 and has been in custody since then.

Uddhav group moves SC against speaker for recognising Eknath Shinde faction-nominated whip
The Uddhav Thackeray-led group of Shiv Sena has moved the Supreme Court against the action of the newly elected Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, who recognised the whip nominated by the Eknath Shinde faction as the chief whip of the Shiv Sena.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the plea for urgent listing before a vacation bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and J.K. Maheshwari.

In the 288-member House, 164 MLAs voted for the motion of confidence, while 99 voted against it. Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced that the trust vote has been carried by a majority vote. After the death of a Shiv Sena MLA recently, the current strength of the Assembly is reduced to 287, thus the majority mark is 144
