In the Ranikor Assembly seat, the United Democratic Party candidate Pious Marwein is leading over NPP candidate Martin M Danggo by over 3,390 votes. Danggo, who was elected on a Congress ticket for the fifth time in March, resigned in June this year to join the ruling NPP.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma today won the South Tura by-election by defeating his nearest Congress rival Charlotte W Momin by over 8,400 votes, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) F R Kharkongor told PTI. With Sangma's win the National People's Party has levelled its tally at 20 with the opposition Congress in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly.

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has won South Tura seat with more than 13000 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Charlotte W Momin. His sister Agatha Sangma resigned from South Tura in July to pave way for him to contest the election.

As per latest reports, NPP is leading in South Tura leads with 10000+ votes. Congress is at second spot with 4191 votes.
In Ranikor, UDP has established a lead with over 7000+ votes, followed by NPP with over 2600+ votes. PDF and Cong are at the number third and fourth spot.

The Meghalaya election department issued a showcause notice to the son of ruling National People's Party (NPP) candidate in Ranikore by-poll Martin M Danggo for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
The notice was served following a verbal complaint lodged by the leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) on the basis of a video circulating on social media purportedly showing him searching a house unauthorisedly at Photkroh village in South West Khasi Hills district.

The South Tura constituency witnessed 72.89 per cent voter turnout. In the Ranikore seat, 82.1 per cent of the 29,685 voters cast their votes. Over 77 per cent votes were polled in the bypolls to two Assembly seats in Meghalaya which passed off peacefully today, Chief Election Officer (CEO) for the state F R Kharkongor said.

Currently, the Meghalaya Assembly comprises 19 NPP members, 20 Congress members, seven UDP MLAs, four People's Democratic Front MLAs, two Independent members, two members each of the BJP and the Hill State People's Democratic Party and one each of Nationalist Congress Party and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement.

The Ranikor assembly seat fell vacant after former Public Works Department Minister and five-time Congress legislator from Ranikor constituency, Martin Dango, resigned as member of the State Assembly and joined the ruling NPP after the government announced the creation of Ranikor Civil Sub-Division. Dango is facing three candidates in the bypolls -- Congress` Jacquish A. Sangma, United Democratic Party`s Pius Marwein and People`s Democratic Front`s P.N. Syiem.
