UP civic body elections 2017: Voting begins for second phase in 25 districts

The local body elections in the state are to be held in three phases.

LUCKNOW: The voting for the second phase of the local body elections in Uttar Pradesh began on Saturday morning.

The districts include Lucknow, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Amroha, Rampur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, Mathura, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Lalitpur, Banda, Allahabad, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Sant Kobirnagar, Deoria, Ballia, Varanasi and Bhadohi.

This phase will also include six municipalities Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Allahabad, Mathura, and Varanasi.

Earlier on Wednesday, the first phase of the UP civic body elections was held which included five municipal corporations, 71 nagar palika parishads and 154 nagar panchayats.

A total of 230 local bodies went to polls in the first phase that included 4,095 wards. There were 1.09 crore voters in the first phase phase who exercised their franchise at 11,679 booths.

In the first phase, 56 candidates were in the fray for five mayor seats, 901 for the chairperson's post in the 71 nagar palikas and 3,856 nominees for the 1,819 nagar palika wards.
