Road constructed for Yogi Adityanath’s event, goes missing after programme

A road that was constructed for an event of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Basti area went missing soon after the programme was over. The road was constructed using bricks and cement ahead of CM Adityanath’s visit for inauguration of Munderwa sugar mill on March 29. A temporary helipad was also constructed for the arrival of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongman.

But the road, which was reportedly 300 metres in length, was nowhere to be seen after the event got over. Locals have alleged that the contractor, who built the road, got the bricks removed after the event got over and Adityanath left the area. All that’s left on the patch is mud.

According to Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Singh, a case has been registered against the contractor and an investigation has been initiated into the incident.

Eyewitnesses said that the contractor who got the road constructed for Adityanath’s event, later used a tractor-trolley to get all the bricks removed. They also accused the general manager of the sugar mill, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, of being aware about the deed of the contractor.

The matter was reported to police by Public Works Department (PWD) engineer Vidya Sagar Singh, following which a case was registered against contractor Prahlad Pandey.

However, the contractor claimed that he did not get the bricks removed and that he has not even been paid for the construction of the road and the helipad till now. He alleged that the bricks were removed by members of the PWD and put the blame on him.
