New Delhi: A slab from Nirmadhin Bridge collapses in Supaul district in Bihar. One person was killed and several others were feared trapped under the bridge. A portion of the bridge was under construction. In the presence of medical teams, rescue operation is underway. 

The bridge was being constructed over the Koshi river, they said. District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar said senior officers of the administration were at the spot, near Maricha between Bakur and Bheja, where the incident took place.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the official said, “The injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. A massive rescue operation is underway,” However, he did not rule out the possibility of more deaths.

According to unofficial reports, over 40 laborers were reportedly on duty when three pillars of the longest under-construction road bridge in the nation collapsed at approximately 7:30 am. As of now, nine individuals have been successfully rescued.

The bridge, spanning 10.2 kilometers and intended to link Supaul and Madhubani districts over the Kosi river, is part of a project undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for the National Highways Authority of India (NHA). Two companies, Gammon India and Trans Rail Lighting Limited, are collaborating on the project, which carries a budget of ₹984 crore.
