Sonia Gandhi admitted to Ganga Ram with stomach upset

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was on Friday admitted to the city`s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) after she complained of stomach upset, hospital authorities confirmed.

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi was on Friday rushed to the city's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) after she complained of stomach upset.

"Madam Gandhi was brought to the hospital today (Friday) around 5 pm She has been found to be suffering from upset stomach," confirmed Sri Ganga Ram Hospital authority.

The 70-year-old was rushed to Delhi from Shimla, where she was on a holiday.

According to the hospital management, the Congress chief has been placed under an observation.

Gandhi had been admitted to SGRH earlier for a shoulder injury and respiratory-related problems.

Rahul Gandhi too confirmed the news and tweeted, "Ma was in Shimla and caught a stomach bug so we got her back. Nothing to worry, she's much better. Thanks for the tremendous love and concern."

Sonia has been keeping unwell for past few years and has frequently travelled to the United States for treatment. However, her party has refused to disclose the nature of her ailment. 

Her son and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is expected to replace her soon as the top boss in the party. 

Though an official confirmation on the same is still awaited, Rahul's elevation is expected to materialize this year along with overdue internal elections for the party's top decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee.
