The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday permitted the sale of hand sanitizers, face masks, gloves and even bedrolls, bed kits at stalls in the railway platforms, amid the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
In an official letter, the Railways stated these items be available for sale amongst those items which fulfil the needs of travelling public and emphasised providing safe and hygienic travel facilities to passengers.
"It must be ensured that takeaway Bedroll Kits/Items, other COVID-I 9 related protective items such as masks, sanitizers, gloves, etc. are also made available for sale through Multi-Purpose Stalls," read the letter.
The Zonal Railways have been advised to ensure the availability of these products for sale through Multi-Purpose Stalls (MPS).
"Zonal Railways may permit the sale of COVID-19 related hygiene and protective items such as face mask, hand sanitizer and gloves through MPS. These 'Takeaway Bedroll Kit/Items' and other protective items should be of good quality and not exceed the MRP," added the letter.
