The Supreme Court will on January 4 hear a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning the delay in adjudication of Ayodhya matter. The PIL also requests the top court to hear the Ayodhya case on an urgent basis and in a time-bound manner.
Notably, the apex court had in November refused early hearing of petitions in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute case, citing that it had already scheduled the hearing of pleas in January.
Meanwhile, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit must be heard by the Supreme Court on a day-to-day basis. Addressing a press conference, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, "The government wants the Ram temple matter to be heard on day-to-day basis so that this issue is resolved at the earliest."
On October 29, the Supreme Court had adjourned the Ayodhya title suit until next year to fix a date for the hearing. The court was hearing the matter which challenged the 2010 ruling of the Allahabad High Court which divided the disputed land into three parts.
Following the decision of the Supreme Court to defer the hearing, clamour grew for a law or ordinance on the construction of Ram Temple. However, the central government and the BJP leadership ruled out any such move, saying there was no need of any ordinance on the temple in the current circumstances.
In an exclusive interview with Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary, BJP president Amit Shah said that while the party was committed to the issue and it is in fact a priority, there is no need for an ordinance for now. Amit Shah clarified that 'Ram Janmbhoomi' issue was a part of the BJP manifesto, and there was no deviation from the same.
