J&K: Two policemen injured in grenade attack in Sopore

Two special police officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir Police were on Sunday injured in a grenade attack by militants in Sopore town of Baramulla district. Militants hurled a grenade towards security forces at Main Chowk Sopore at around 9.35 am, resulting in minor injuries to two policemen, a police official said.

He said the injured policemen were taken to local hospital. 

The attack comes at a time when an encounter with security forces is underway in Uri area near the Line of Control in Baramulla district of Kashmir. A militant has been killed in the firing. "Cordon was laid and search operation started in Kalgai area of Uri this morning following information about the presence of militants in the area," an Army official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security forces. "One militant has been killed in the operation. The civilian population has been evacuated from the area and the operation is still going on," he added.
