'Smoke, sparks' force Indigo flight to make emergency landing in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A Bengaluru-bound Indigo Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after 'smoke' and 'spark' scare inside the cabin on Saturday.

The cabin crew of flight 6E-445, from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru, noticed the smell of smoke inside the cabin.

“They further identified minor sparks coming from hat-rack of seat 24RH and immediately informed the Pilot-in-Command,” said the airlines.

On investigating, it was found that the smoke was coming out of a black laptop placed inside hand baggage. It was immediately extinguished.

“Taking precautionary measures, the cabin crew on priority relocated all passengers from adjacent seats,” said Indigo in a statement.

The aircraft landed at Bengaluru airport.

“All passengers were deplaned as per normal procedure and the DGCA was voluntarily informed,” said Indigo.

Over the past few weeks, Indigo has been hitting the headlines for a host of wrong reasons.

At first, the airlines faced flak for a leaked video that showed an employee manhandling a passenger.

On Saturday, a passenger fell-off from her wheelchair at Lucknow airport while being assisted by IndiGo staff.

The airline has apologised for both the incidents.
