Kerala to bring in new liquor policy, to give bar license to 3, 4-star hotels: Report

Thiruvanathapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala on Thursday decided to bring in a new liquor policy for the state during a meeting.

According to media source, the committee has agreed on giving bar license to 3 and 4-star hotels in the state. The final policy will be brought in by the state government.

A new Toddy board will be formed, which will work for the protection of toddy workers.

Toddy -  the domestic palm wine in the state of Kerala- will be made available in all 5-star hotels of the state.

The policy is likely to have a positive impact on the Tourism Industry in Kerala.

"Kerala has never been a dry-state but the previous policy have hindered the Tourism industry and the government is reviewing the policy, but there is no confirmation yet," Thomas Issac, the Finance Minister of Kerala said.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government had allowed the sale of hard liquor only in 5-star hotels and state-run Bevco outlets.

Kerala, a dry state for two and half year, might soon be allowed to sell liquor in 3 and 4 stars hotels.
