J&K government formation: As it happened on Tuesday...

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday indicated that she is in no hurry to form government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar/Jammu: A day after Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra stepped in to end the prevailing deadlock over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir since the demise of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday indicated that she is in no hurry to form government in the state.

PDP, with 27 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly and BJP with 25 legislators, ran a coalition government headed by Sayeed for 10 months before his demise on January 7.

The PDP chief had said she will take a call after "reassessing" whether ally BJP's government at the Centre would take substantive steps in a "set time frame" to address the "core" political and economic issues of the state.

Meanwhile, the PDP Legislature Party met for the first time on Monday since the demise of the ex-chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed but gave no clarity on whether Mehbooba was elected as its leader - a requirement for her formal projection as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

PDP chief Mehbooba will meet the Governor in the afternoon today after which Sharma will meet him.

Vohra called for separate meetings with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and state BJP chief Sat Pal Sharma over the issue of J&K govt formation on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Governor sent a communication by fax to the PDP Chief last evening for holding consultations.

On Monday, J&K Governor asked the PDP and the BJP to clarify their stand on govt formation by Tuesday.
