Mumbai: The counting of votes to elect a new 81-member Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation was held on Thursday.

The Congress Party has bagged a staggering 67 of the 73 seats in the 81-member body while the opposition stands crushed. The counting of votes began at 10 am.

The polling was held on Wednesday.

The Congress, BJP, the All India Majlis-e-Muslimeen (AIMIM), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena participated in the elections.

In 2012, the Congress had enjoyed the majority by winning 41 seats. Shiv Sena stood second with 14 seats while Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Muslimeen (AIMIM) bagged 11 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) stood fourth with 10 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could manage to bag only two seats.
