New Delhi: The co-owner of Kamala Mills Compound, - the site of a devastating fire that claimed the lives of at least 14 people last year, has now approached the Supreme Court challenging his arrest in connection with the case.
The top court is scheduled to hear the matter on March 27.
In his petition, the co-owner of the Kamala Mills Compound, Ravi Surajmal Bhandari, has called his arrest in the case ''an illegal detention''.
He has maintained that he could not be held liable for the Kamala Mills Compound fire tragedy.
Bhandari decided to move the top court after getting no relief from the Bombay High Court earlier, as it dismissed his bail application.
On January 25, the bail applications of all five accused - Yug Tuli, Yug Pathak, Abhijit Mankar, Jigar Sanghvi and Kripesh Sanghvi – were categorically rejected by the Mumbai court.
Owing to a massive outcry over violation of building safety norms in the aftermath of the tragic Kamala Mills Compound fire incident in central Mumbai several people were arrested by the Mumbai Police and licenses of several private builders and business complexes were either cancelled or review by the BMC - the city's top civic body.
