New Delhi: The hours after the imposition of the President's rule in Uttarakhand, Union Minister Arun Jaitley came out in support of the move and said the state government was murdering the provisions of the Constitution every day.
Jaitley said that passing a failed in Assembly on March 18 was a breakdown of Constitution in itself.
"It is perhaps the first and only example in Independent India that a failed bill was passed in the Assembly without a proper vote. Appropriation Bill had failed on March 18 so constitutionally there should be no financial disbursement from April 1. Article 356 and 357 Centre has to make arrangement within next three days to ensure smooth functioning of the state government machinery."
"The Uttarakhand was repeatedly flouting the constitution. The government which was in power after March 18 was non-constitutional," added Jaitley.
Following days of political crisis in the state, the Centre on Sunday imposed President's Rule in Uttarakhand. The Assembly has been kept in suspended animation.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had convened an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss Uttarakhand crisis.
The Cabinet had considered several reports received from Governor KK Paul, who had described the political situation as volatile and expressed apprehensions over possible pandemonium during the scheduled trial of strength in the state Assembly tomorrow.
