Kohima: The Nagaland PCC on Monday joined the chorus condemning Nagaland and Assam Governor P B Acharya for his controversial remarks and demanded his replacement.
"The Governor of Nagaland and Assam's statement that 'Hindustan is for Hindus' is unbecoming of a leader of his standing and is condemnable ... By uttering that India is Hindustan for Hindus has revealed the agenda with which he was appointed to a Christian state like Nagaland," said a statement issued by Nagaland PCC President K Therie here.
Being the constitutional head of two states Acharya is expected to be more careful in his utterances, Therie said. "We demand that he be replaced immediately if he cannot uphold the Secular spirit of the Constitution of India ... He (Acharya) should be relieved of his duties as governor of the two states and should perhaps be given time to pursue his religious fervor," the Nagaland PCC chief added.
Acharya stoked a controversy on Saturday with his reported "Hindustan is for Hindus" remark and his attempt to clarify yesterday with another comment that Indian Muslims are "free to go Pakistan".
