Bihar minister feasts with Mohammad Sahabuddin inside jail

Patna: The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar courted trouble on Tuesday after a minister was caught on camera feasting with Mohammad Sahabuddin, who is serving a life sentence in connection with a murder case.

Bihar Minority Affairs Minister Abdul Ghafoor and another MLA met Sahabuddin inside Siwan jail on March 6.

Former Member of Parliament Sahabuddin is a criminal-turned-politician who reigned supreme in Siwan before law caught up with him.

Defending his actions, Abdul Ghafoor said he had only paid a courtesy visit to his former colleague Sahabuddin.

“I was in the (Siwan) circuit house and as the jail was nearby, I decided to meet Sahabuddin,” Ghafoor said.

Interestingly, Ghafoor referred to the Kanhaiya Kumar episode to pin the blame on the BJP for the questions being asked about his meeting with Sahabuddin.

Expectedly, the BJP has slammed the Bihar government over the issue.

Senior party leader Sushil Kumar Modi said, “Till the time such people get patronage by the government, Bihar can never become crime-free.”
