Raipur: A former village sarpanch who was abducted by Maoists, was found killed today in the Maoist stronghold of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, the police said here.
The body of Somlu Tati, the former sarpanch of Todka village panchayat, was found lying in a pool of blood on a road near his native place Todka under Gangaloor police station limits, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.
The incident came to light this afternoon when some villagers informed the police that Tati's body was lying on the road on the outskirts of Todka, located around 450 km away from the state capital, the police official said.
Tati was reportedly abducted by Maoists last week from his village, after he was suspected to be a police informer, the police official said.
Soon after receiving news of the incident, security forces were rushed to the spot, the ASP said.
Prima facie it appears that he was killed with sharp edged weapons, he said, adding that only a post mortem would ascertain the exact cause of his death.
A search has been launched to nab the attackers, the police official said.
