Naxalite arrested in Chhattisgarh

A Naxal, carrying a reward on his head, was arrested during a combing operation in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Raipur: A Naxal, carrying a reward on his head, was arrested during a combing operation in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday.

Mainuram was apprehended from Kokodi village under Bayanar police station limits by a joint team of security personnel last night, Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri told a news agency.
Acting on a tip off about presence of rebels at a local fair, a squad of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and district force was mobilised in the Bayanar region, around 250 km from the state capital Raipur.

When the security personnel reached near Kokodi, they spotted a man fleeing into the forests. They chased and nabbed him and he was later identified as Mainuram, a member of Janatana Sarkar group of CPI (Maoist) who carried a reward of Rs 3,000 on his head, the Addl SP said.
He had been involved in several Naxal-related incidents, including attack on a police party in Mardapal region, looting of weapons and arranging ration for the cadres, Atri said.

He was today produced before a local court, which sent him to jail.
