What this means is people living in these colonies will now be able to get 'registry' as ownership document.
So far, 'power of attorney' was the only document which residents living in these colonies could obtain.
There are about 2,000 unauthorised colonies in the national capital and around 40 percent of the city's total population resides here.
The Union Cabinet had in December 2014 cleared a proposal to amend existing guidelines for regularisation of unauthorised colonies. It had also extended the cut-off date for unauthorised colonies eligible for regularisation from March 31, 2002 to June 1, 2014.
