Convene meeting of panel on trafficking, sex workers: DCW to Delhi Govt

Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday appealed to Delhi Government to convene a meeting of the state-level coordination committee, constituted to combat trafficking and rehabilitation of sex workers.

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday appealed to Delhi Government to convene a meeting of the state-level coordination committee, constituted to combat trafficking and rehabilitation of sex workers.

According to a Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) official, Delhi Chief Secretary K K Sharma has agreed to re-convene a meeting of the committee in this regard.

"He also said that all issues raised by DCW would be sorted out soon," said the official.

Maliwal had last week written to Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi urging her to convene a meeting of the Central Advisory Committee to combat trafficking of women.

"She had written to Sharma last week regarding the same issue wherein she pointed out that (meeting of) the state-level coordination committee has not been convened even once in the last three years and that it consists of over 25 members because of which the committee never met, considering the fact that it will be difficult to get all 25 members to meet every month," said the DCW official.

Maliwal had also written to Union Minister Gandhi requesting her to expedite the proceedings of Centre Advisory Committee for rescue and rehabilitation of sex workers.

Maliwal and Sharma also talked about restructuring of the Commission.
