After anti-corruption, Delhites now join AAP for anti-pollution: Gopal Rai

New Delhi: Praising the media for its role in creating awareness regarding the odd-even traffic rule, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Friday said that the new measure has become a major public movement and the first day of its implementation in the national capital has been a huge success.

“Due to the support of the media, this resolve (odd-even rule) has become a major public movement now. And we can see the mindset of the people is changing,” Rai said at a press conference.

He thanked Delhites for supporting this “noble cause” and said that the people of the national capital have choosen their children's better future with pollution-free Delhi and rejected the rumours over the new traffic rule.

“We didn't expect such a huge success, it has been overwhelming. Once again Delhites have shown that through self-regulation anything is possible,” he added.

“Just like the anti-corruption movement, the people of Delhi once again rose to the occasion and holeheartedly supported the anti-pollution drive,” he said.

He said that he had taken a tour of Delhi to find out if the initiative was successful and he was happy to learn that it was an overwhelming success.

“All my cabinet colleagues have used the carpooling mode to reach office and i encourage others as well to follow the same,” Rai said.

He also thanked the Delhi police, traffic police, the civil defence, SDM and the transport department for their “full cooperation since morning”.

Several people were also fined for breaking the law in different parts of Delhi during the first day of the drive, he added.
