DDCA scam: BJP rejects corruption allegations against Arun Jaitley, promises point-by-point rebuttal to AAP

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday categorically rejected all allegations of corruption made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his tenure as the chief of the Delhi District and Cricket Association (DDCA).

The BJP today said that it will give a point-by-point rebuttal to all charges made by Delhi's ruling party, which, it alleged, was trying to shield a corrupt officer Rajendra Kumar, who is under the CBI scanner over corruption allegations.

Reacting to the AAP allegations, senior BJP leader and BCCI general secretary Anurag Thakur said, “Baseless allegations are being levelled against an honest man to protect a corrupt officer.''

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad also reacted by saying as the AAP government has been exposed by the Transparency International, it is trying to counter blast Jaitley on the issue of an alleged scam in the Delhi District and Cricket Association (DDCA).

"The entire allegation against Arun Jaitley is absolutely baseless and motivated. The integrity of Arun Jaitley is too well-known in the entire world. The fact remains that because Arvind Kejriwal and his government today is cornered, as the manner in which they sought to give shelter to Rajender Kumar. therefore, it is a counter-blast," Prasad told media.

"Transparency International has publicly claimed it had warned the government please have a proper enquiry about the antecedents of this officer. Therefore, a government which came from an anti-corruption crusade is trying to shelter an official under cloud. Because they have been caught and there is no evidence, therefore they have made counter charges against Arun Jaitley," he added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has also rejected the allegations of irregularities against Arun Jaitley and said that such charges were absolutely rubbish.

"Some allegations have been raised against the DDCA and it needs clarification as everyone is stating their point. First thing is allegation of irregularities on stadium construction. Stadium is made of Rs. 141 crores," DDCA working president Chetan Chauhan told the press conference.

Reacting to demands by the Congress Party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for his resignation, Jaitley said he could answer specific issue, but he could not answer "vague allegation" without any basis.

"If they tell me what is the specific issue, I can answer it, but I can't answer vague allegation without any basis," he said.
