Delhi HC asks Centre to submit draft guidelines for safety of Northeast people

The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Central government to submit draft guidelines by Tuesday in order to ensure safety of the Northeastern community staying in the nation`s capital.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Central government to submit draft guidelines by Tuesday in order to ensure safety of the Northeastern community staying in the nation`s capital.

The court`s direction comes in the wake of recent death of Arunachal student Nido Taniam and alleged rape of Manipuri girl.

The son of Congress MLA Nido Pavitra, Taniam was declared dead in hospital a day after he was allegedly beaten by the shopkeepers at Delhi`s Lajpat Nagar area.

The Court had taken suo moto cognisance of Taniam`s death and asked the state, Centre and Delhi government to file report on the incident.

In another incident, a minor girl from Manipur was sexually assaulted a few days back at Munirka in South Delhi.

Northeastern community has been staging massive protest in the capital demanding action against those involved in the two incidents and the racial discrimination happening with people from the region.
