In a fresh incident of road rage, a traffic constable died on Sunday in the national capital after he was allegedly run over by a person driving a car, following a heated argument.

Delhi: In a fresh incident of road rage, a traffic constable died on Sunday in the national capital after he was allegedly run over by a person driving a car, following a heated argument.

The traffic constable identified as Mana Ram, 26, was mowed down by the accused, 26-year-old Raman Kant, in Moti Nagar area here, after Ram tried apprehending Kant for driving on the wrong side of the road, reports said.

Trying to evade Ram, the accused dragged the constable for over 200 meters, which led to his tragic death.

According to reports, the incident happened at 7:30 PM yesterday, when traffic constable Mana Ram had stopped the car of the accused, Raman Kant, who was driving along with two minors - at the Motinagar Chowk in West Delhi.

To avoid a traffic jam, police set up a diversion at the Motinagar Chowk. Reportedly, an argument broke out between the three people in the car and the traffic constable today morning when Mana Ram asked Raman Kant to take a detour.
To run away from the spot, the accused reversed his car, but to stop him from eloping from the spot the constable jumped on the bonnet. The accused then allegedly drove the car in a zigzag manner for about 150 metres, braked suddenly to throw off Mana Ram and then ran over him. The three occupants of the car then left the vehicle at the spot and ran away.

Soon after the incident, Mana Ram was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead.

However, the three accused were later arrested from Shastri Nagar. Charges of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code have been filed against Raman while the two minors have been sent to a judicial home.

Police honour was given to the traffic police constable at Toda Pur Traffic Police Line today evening.
