Security arrangements reviewed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Top security officials on Tuesday reviewed the security arrangements in the wake of increase in militant activities in the Valley and upcoming bypoll for Anantnag assembly seat, from where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is contesting.

"The security review meeting was held today at Khanabal to review the overall security situation in the Valley and to draw out the future security strategy.

The meeting was co-chaired by Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Satish Dua, and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police K Rajender Kumar, a defence spokesman said.

Senior officers from police, army, CRPF, BSF and intelligence agencies were also present, he said.

"During the deliberations on the overall security situation, the plans to ensure smooth conduct of bypoll in Anantnag and maintaining robust counter terrorist grid in the hinterland were discussed," he said.

The spokesman said special emphasis was given to enhance synergy between agencies so as to ensure a peaceful and incident free election.

The aspects of sharing of intelligence, joint planning, situational awareness, flow of information and compatibility of communication equipment were also discussed, he added.

"All security agencies expressed their satisfaction on their preparedness for the period and particularly the added security afforded by the infusion of cutting-edge technology into the surveillance infrastructure," the spokesman said.

Expressing satisfaction on the synchronisation of actions amongst various intelligence agencies, Dua emphasised on maintaining a high level of preparedness to deal with the spurt in terrorist initiated incidents and highlighted on the combined effort to effectively counter such incidents.

The heads of security agencies assured the gathering on the effectiveness of law and order control measures in place, the spokesman added.
