Lucknow: After Baba Ramdev`s controversial `honeymoon` remark on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi sparked a major row, the Lucknow administration on Sunday banned all his public meetings here till May 16.

Two separate FIRs were also filed against Ramdev, including one by Uttar Pradesh police, for his remarks against Rahul made in Lucknow that he visited the homes of Dalits for "honeymoon and picnic".

The Election Commission had yesterday issued fresh guidelines against making "malicious" statements about the private life of individuals. The EC said that if the orders are violated the person will not be allowed to hold programmes during polls.

After Ramdev withdrew his controversial remark and issued an apology, BJP came out in defence of the yoga guru and said that he`s already apologised for what he said, political parties must stop pursuing the matter further.

Ramdev had said that Rahul Gandhi goes to the houses of Dalits for honeymoon and picnic. "He goes to Dalits` house for honeymoon and picnic. Had he married a Dalit girl, then his luck could have clicked and he would have become the prime minister," Ramdev had said at a programme in Lucknow.
Angered by the remark against the Gandhi scion, Congress party has demanded that the yoga guru be arrested for what he has said. “Ramdev`s comments are unforgivable, he should be arrested, Alvi said.
Calling Rahul “unlucky”, Ramdev had said that "His (Rahul`s) mother says that if you marry a foreigner girl, then you cannot become the PM and this boy does not want to marry an Indian girl. His mother wants that first he becomes the PM and then marry a foreigner," he added.
