New Delhi: With barely two days remaining for polling on the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram, NGOs and youth organisations have called for bandh which will be in effect on the voting day.
The organisations and NGOs including Young Mizo Association (YMA), the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) and Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) are angry over the Election Commission`s decision to permit Bru refugees to vote on May 16, news reports stated.
Ethnic clashes with dominant Mizo tribe had forced thousands of Bru refugees to move out of the state around 17 years ago and take refuge in Tripura.
The Election Commission has allowed these refugees to cast their votes through postal ballots from their relief camps.
The 72-hour bandh will start from Monday and will be enforced across the state.
While public announcements were reportedly made asking people not to venture out of their homes, movement of public transport have also been suspended for the duration of the bandh.
