New Delhi: After Arun Jaitley ruled out any apology from Narendra Modi on the 2002 Gujarat riots, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday, while speaking exclusively to Zee Media, said that the Gujarat Chief Minister had done no wrong so as to apologise for the riots.
However, he added that Modi was hurt with what had happened in Gujarat in 2002, saying that no CM would want any riots to take place in his state.
On the question of Modi being called as disastrous for the nation by the Congress leaders, Rajnath said, "The Muslims of Gujarat vote for Modi, then why wouldn`t they vote for him outside the state."
Following reports that the BJP may have left the veteran leader to sulk last month by deciding to field him from Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Rajnath clarified that the decision to field party patriarch LK Advani from the Gujarat seat was not party`s but of Advani`s himself.
Rajnath also refuted Captain Amarinder Singh claims that there is “160 club” in BJP of which Arun Jaitley was one of the chief architects. The senior Congress leader alleged that the BJP’s “160 club” which did not want the party to win more than 160 seats so as to queer pitch for party`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and make it difficult for him to become the PM.
“A man who cannot be loyal to his own party and own leader cannot be loyal to people of Amritsar either,” Captain Singh had said firing a salvo at Jaitley.
BJP leaders had also dismissed the talk of ’160 club’ and said that there is a Modi wave and the party is working to cross the target of 272 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
