New Delhi: In a controversial statement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti equated the Congress with prostitutes preaching morality. Her comments were in reference to accusations by the grand old party of BJP sidelining senior party leaders.

In an interview to a leading daily, Bharti reportedly said that Congress taking a moral high ground on the issue of BJP veterans being marginalised by Narendra Modi was like `prostitutes preaching morality`.

Uma maintained that LK Advani was a respected leader, along with other veterans. She also said that BJP`s PM candidate had great respect for the party patriarch. She questioned the moral high ground taken by the Congress.

At the same time she reminded that Congress leader and former PM of India Rajeev Gandhi had compared the party old-guards with leeches in 1984.

Praising Modi the BJP leader said that the Gujarat leader had emerged as a champion of development.
On her stand regarding sending Congress president Sonia Gandhi`s son-in-law Raobert Vadra to jail over alleged fraudulent land deals, she reiterated that if someone has committed a crime then he would go to jail.
If someone has committed a crime, he will go to jail. Ahilyabai Holkar, a Maratha queen, had her corrupt son-in-law crushed under the feet of an elephant. Priyanka singled me out in her jibe. It was hurting and a cheap remark.

The Congress has been taking jibes at the BJP for sidelining senior BJP leaders like Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Jaswant Singh who has been expelled from the party for six years,

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had said at a rally recently that if BJP leader and former PM of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee had been in active politics then he too would have been sdelined like others.
The Congress has also been accusing the BJP of becoming a one-man party and is of the view that Modi has become bigger than the party.

Bharti is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Jhansi.
