A seven-year-old girl, who was hit by a speeding car, succumbed to injuries after remaining in coma for over a week, police said on Wednesday.

Gurgaon: A seven-year-old girl, who was hit by a speeding car, succumbed to injuries after remaining in coma for over a week, police said on Wednesday.

Jiya Juneja, a Class 3 student at Ryan International School in Sector 40 here, was hit by a car after her school bus dropped her on the wrong side of the road on May 9 near her house in Krishna Colony.

Jiya succumbed to her injuries at the Medanta Medicity hospital.

While the school bus driver has been arrested, the car that hit the girl is still untraceable.

"We have examined all the CCTV footage available close to the accident site but car that hit the child could not be traced," Shailender Shyoran, chief of Sector 5 police station, told IANS.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hawa Singh said: "We are investigating if there were lapses on the part of school management and will take strict action if found so."

The school bus driver Vinod Kumar, 45, a resident of Carterpuri, has been arrested under sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 338 (endangering life).

The body of the child was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.
