Chandigarh: Haryana government will carry out tagging and evaluation of cattle in all cowsheds of the state till April.

There are about 423 registered and unregistered gaushalas in the state which have about 3 lakh cattle heads, Chairman of Haryana Gau Sewa Aayog, Bhaniram Mangla said.

The decision was taken at a review meeting of the Aayog held here on Tuesday.

He said the evaluation would be carried out to find out the number of indigenous cows, jersey cows, calves and bulls in the gaushalas.

"After implementation of the Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, the Aayog has taken the initiative to establish 'Gau Greh' for 100 cows in every village with the help of panchayat and villagers," Mangla said, adding that there is also a proposal to develop five gaushalas as 'Adarsh Gaushalas' next year and make them self-dependent.

The Aayog has provided a grant of more than Rs 3 crore to 253 gaushalas for fodder, he added.
