New Delhi: With 400 million people suffering from diabetes worldwide, the disease has become a global public health crisis.

It is said that one out of every 11 adults is suffering from the disease, yet half of them have not even been diagnosed. This is why diabetes has been termed as a 'hidden killer'.

Diabetes is a life-long, metabolic disease that affects the way your body handles glucose, a kind of blood sugar, in your blood. About 90% of people with the condition in the world have type 2 diabetes.

The warning of diabetes are so mild that you might not even notice them, especially in type 2 diabetes. Some of the signs and symptoms of diabetes are:

  • Making frequent trips to bathroom to urinate
  • Increased thirst
  • Hunger and fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow healing sores or cuts
  • Yeast infections – between fingers and toes, under breasts, in or around sex organs

If you notice any possible symptoms and suspect that you may have diabetes, consult your doctor immediately to avoid further complications in the body. Also, people with risk factors for diabetes such as a family history or being overweight should get evaluated on a regular basis.
