Aizawl: At least 19 people have been affected by Dengue in Mizoram till May this year, state health department officials said Friday.

Six cases of dengue were identified in the state in 2012 and seven cases in 2013. Last year, 19 dengue cases were found while 19 people were found to be infected with dengue this year till May, the officials said on the inauguration of the Anti-Dengue Month.

Concerted efforts were made to contain the spread of the dreaded disease, caused by Aedes mosquitoes.

The civil hospitals at Aizawl and southern Lunglei town were designated as Sentinel Surveillance Centre and were equipped with ELISA Reader and Washer, the officials said.

ELISA stands for Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay. In short, it is an antibody test or a test for immune response to things attacking the body such as virus, bacteria and allergens. The test is done in an ELISA plate, also known as a 96-well plate or microplate. The ELISA reader reads the plate.
