AIIMS doctors write to health minister over denial of quota in faculty posts

A group of AIIMs faculty members has written to the Union Health Ministry expressing concern over the denial of reservations in faculty appointments at the premier medical institute.

New Delhi: A group of AIIMs faculty members has written to the Union Health Ministry expressing concern over the denial of reservations in faculty appointments at the premier medical institute.

The faculty group, writing under the Forum for Rights and Equality, also accused the hospital administration of attempting to okay the recruitment of faculty members at a recently held Governing Body meeting without applying the proper roster system, overruling the objections raised by some faculty members.

"The Governing Body met on April 13 and apparently referred the issue of ratification of recently conducted faculty selections to the Department of Personnel and Training for its comments.

"We are not privy to the actual decision of the Governing Body. However, our past experience makes us apprehensive that the result may be declared even before the final comments made by DoPT are received and shared with the Institute Body," they said.

The Institute Body is the highest decision-making authority at AIIMS.

"The major policy decisions are taken by the Institute Body. We, therefore, request you to let the due process be followed," said the letter sent recently to the secretary in the Health Ministry.

The forum had in January demanded the scrapping of the current roster along with compensation for what they alleged were "damages done to the entitlements of SC, ST and OBC because of the faulty roster".

The forum had also sought that the recruitment of faculty members in AIIMS and such institutes be placed directly under a Parliamentary Committee for proper implementation of reservation policies.

They had also demanded that accountability be fixed and action taken for violation of law with regard to roster information, de-reservation and elimination of vacancies.

The forum had submitted a memorandum in this regard to the President of AIIMS, which is the Union Health Minister, on December 23 last year.
