Amudat records the highest number of maternal deaths

According to a study, Amudat district has the highest maternal mortality ratio in Uganda at 850 deaths per 100,000 births.

A report according to Maternal and Prenatal Death Review 2012/2013 reveals the statistics.Uganda’s average maternal mortality ratio is 438 deaths per 100,000 live births.

Kiryandongo, Kitgum, Masaka, Mityana, Buvuma, Adjumani, Ibanda and Bundibugyo were some other disrtricts where high maternal mortality rate was recorded.

 

Out of the total 112 districts,23 did not provide data. The health ministry and the United Nations Population Fund report says that the eight districts with the highest rates had serious human resource challenges.

Out of the 724,806 women who delivered in health facilities in the districts that reported, 1,157 died, the report said.

Another thing to note is that 9% of the victims were in health facilities for only two hours, while 53% died within 24 hours of reaching there.
