Canberra: An Australian woman is undergoing tests for Ebola in the capital city of Canberra, health officials said on Saturday.

The officials said that the woman was being monitored since her return from Liberia, where she worked as a medical professional, The Canberra Times reported.

The health care worker did not treat any Ebola patients in Liberia due to the low number of cases in the country and it was very unlikely she had contracted the infection.

On Friday, she started developing symptoms, an Australian Capital Territory official said.

"It's very, very unlikely to be Ebola. It is overwhelmingly likely it is something else," he said.

"Although she was working at an Ebola treatment clinic she actually didn't have any cases to treat. There are many other things you can get over there."

So far there have been no cases of Ebola in Australia.
