New Delhi: On World Toilet Day Sep 19, the state unit of the BJP along with the World Toilet Organization (WTO) will organise an international summit here, a statement said Wednesday.

Highlighting that Delhi would be hosting the World Toilet Summit for the first time, the BJP informed that WTO founder Jack Sim met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and discussed the event.

According to the statement, Sim informed the leaders that the WTO was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on cleanliness especially building more toilets and expressed WTO's willingness to start a clean toilet campaign in India.

"So far, there has not been any real campaign for toilets in India which is the cause behind the spread of infectious diseases," said the statement quoting Sim.

Talking about the campaign, Upadhyay said: "WTO has decided to start work with BJP Delhi. Under the campaign, the WTO will not only construct toilets as per international standards but has also offered financial assistance for sanitation in rural areas.

The World Toilet Day is being observed annually for the last 14 years under the aegis of United Nations Organization.
