Generic medicines' plants in Bihar, UP, WB soon: Ahir

The Centre would set up plants of generic medicines in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and open 3,000 stores of generic medicines across the country in July to make available life saving medicines to people at subsidised price, Union Minister Hansraj Ahir said.

Darbhanga (Bihar): The Centre would set up plants of generic medicines in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and open 3,000 stores of generic medicines across the country in July to make available life saving medicines to people at subsidised price, Union Minister Hansraj Ahir said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would launch the opening of 3,000 stores of generic medicines across the country in July this year, the Union minister of State of Chemicals and Fertiliser told reporters here today.

These stores initially would be opened at district level and subsequently at block levels, Ahir said.

The minister was here in connection with launch of the Centre's three insurance schemes across the country today.

Ahir accompanied by Lok Sabha member Kirti Azad said that the stores would have 504 medicines with it including the one for cancer.

Life saving medicines would be made available at a very subsidised rate to people from these stores, he said.

The minister said there would be vigilance committee to be headed by local Member of Parliament to oversee functioning of these generic medicines stores.
