Mizoram defers banning of Maggi noodles

The Mizoram government Monday deferred banning of 'Maggi' instant noodles acting on instructions from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI).

Aizawl: The Mizoram government Monday deferred banning of 'Maggi' instant noodles acting on instructions from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI).

Joint Director of Health Services (Food and Drugs Administration) Lalsawma told PTI that a meeting, convened by state Food Safety Commissioner Dr K Ropari, today deliberated on the instructions received from the FSSAI and decided not to ban 'Maggi' outright.

"The meeting was of the opinion that the matter should be carefully handled and the centre asked the state government to draw samples of the product for tests," Lalsawma said.

Besides drawing samples for tests, the state health department would also wait and watch how the Nestle company recalled its products from the state, he said.

The state government has banned import and sale of four energy drinks.

State food safety commissioner issued an order on Friday last banning energy drinks like Monster, Tzinga, Cloud 9 pomegranate/grape and Akoarama.

He said the energy drinks were banned following instructions from the FSSAI.
