Rebuild medical profession`s lost glory: Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi: Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Sunday asked doctors to "introspect" and rebuild the "lost glory" of the medical profession in India.

Addressing medical professionals at a function here marking the centenary celebrations of the Delhi Medical Association, he said: "I would like to see DMA reviving its social mission and contributing to the government's health for all objective.

"I would like to involve all sections of society in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals."

The DMA was founded in 1914 by a group of doctors - Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Abdul Rehman, S.P. Shroff, H.L. Keal, J.K. Sain, Bhairon Dayal and I.T. Mittra.

Harsh Vardhan said the medical community of India was presently under scrutiny for instances of unethical practices on the part of some doctors.

"Though the vast majority of doctors are faultlessly devoted to duty, some are giving the profession a bad name," he said.
