Soon French hospital to serve wine to patients, family

London: Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital in Puy-de-Dome, central France, has recently revealed that they will soon open a wine bar in their palliative care centre for the patients and their families.

The centre, which offers comfort for people with chronic and terminal illnesses, will provide "medically supervised" tipples including fine wines, champagne and whisky, the Independent reported.

Dr Virginie Guastella, the centre's manager, said that she was defending the right to have fun and hopes that other hospitals would also catch on in the idea to brighten up the lives of patients and their families.

Staff at the hospital unit would be specially trained to manage patients' needs at the bar and the initiative has been taken in order to offer terminally ill people a happier and more relaxed space to share their final days with family and friends.

The establishment would be opened in September.
