Washington: A new study has found that junk food not only makes you fat, it also reduces your appetite for novel foods, which normally drives people to seek a balanced diet.

The study has shown how excessive consumption of junk food can change behavior, weaken self-control and lead to overeating and obesity.

According to the study, a junk diet causes lasting changes in the reward circuit parts of the brain which is responsible for decision-making, thereby disrupting the ability to limit intake of certain kinds of foods.

The study was published in the open-access journal Frontiers in Psychology.
