120 special teams set up for rivers' rejuvenation

The water resources ministry has set up a total of 120 special teams to study various aspects of rejuvenation of rivers, an official release said Saturday.

New Delhi: The water resources ministry has set up a total of 120 special teams to study various aspects of rejuvenation of rivers, an official release said Saturday.

The teams were constituted to study various aspects of 118 places in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal along the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Ramganga, the release an official release said here Saturday.

The teams were asked to find out the latest position of sewage treatment plants located at these places and the types of plantation required along the rivers, it said.

They were also directed to find out the latest available techniques to modernize these treatment plants to obtain quicker results with old and non-functional treatment plants to be replaced by new ones.

The teams will also recommend necessary measures to be taken immediately to contain pollution in these rivers to the Central Pollution Control Board.
