New Delhi: The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Uri attack has got its first victim as the trade fair - 'Aalishan Pakistan', which was scheduled to be held in India this year has been called off.
In a brief announcement, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) said the fair aimed at showcasing Pakistani goods in India in September/October had been cancelled.
“Due to the current situation between Pakistan and India which is beyond TDAP’s control, the event planned for 2016 has been called off,” it said.
The TDAP held the first edition of the event in 2012 and second in 2014, says the announcement.
Relations between Islamabad and New Delhi have soured following Sunday’s militant attack on an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of eighteen soldiers.
The armed militants lobbed grenades into their tents and barracks, while the soldiers were sleeping. The ensuing fire led to a large number of casualties. Twenty-eight injured soldiers are being treated at a military hospital.
