New Delhi: Members of both Houses of Parliament- the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday offered their deepest condolences to those who had lost their lives in the devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal and parts of India on Tuesday.

The quake, which hit the Himalayan nation on Tuesday afternoon, came a fortnight after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake had claimed over 7,000 lives and had devastated the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed the hope for the early recovery of people injured in the earthquake, while Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari assured the solidarity of Indian people with the government and people of Nepal in their hour of grief.

"The earthquake and the aftershocks also jolted Northern and Eastern parts of India, in which many lost their lives and injuring others in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. It also damaged houses and property in these states," Ansari added.

Members of both Houses observed silence as a mark of respect to the memory of those who had lost their lives in the earthquake.

Till now, the fresh earthquake has claimed over 60 lives.
