New Delhi: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Saturday expressed his shock over the Ford Foundation and Greenpeace being scrutinised for their activities by the NDA Government at the Centre and said it revealed the Fascist mentality of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"It is absolutely shocking that such noble organisations like the Ford Foundation and Greenpeace are being attacked by this government. It reveals their Fascist mentality. The Ford Foundation is one of the major contributors to the Green Revolution India. They have been involved in the noble work for the past half-century or more" Aiyar told ANI.
"And, for us, to suddenly start targetting them only because Teesta Setalvad is persistent in exposing the Hitlerian evils of the Modi Government is a revelation of the kind of mindset that the Modi Government has," he added.
"And, the same applies to Greenpeace. Greenpeace is an organisation that fights both for peace and justice. If there is no place for peace and justice in India, then what happens to the Constitution of India," he added.
Aiyar's reaction comes after the Ministry of Home Affairs had on Friday placed the Ford Foundation on its watch list on the basis of inputs received from security agencies.
According to reports, the ministry found the foundation to be in 'serious violation' of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and has asked the Reserve Bank of India to instruct all banks of the same, in order to ensure that any funds from the organisation be brought to the ministry's notice.
In addition, all funds that the Ford Foundation receives from its headquarters in the US will reportedly have to be cleared by the ministry.
