New Delhi: Congress leader Ajay Maken's advocate Vikas Singh said that the Delhi High Court has taken the Centre to task for not constituting a committee to hear grievances against advertisements by states and the Central government.
"The governments of NCT Delhi and the Union of India have today accepted the notice in the matter and the High Court asked the Union of India as to why they have not constituted a committee where such grievances are to be made. If the committee had been formed, the case needn't have been heard by the court. On July 27, they will hear whether an interim order is to be passed with regards to these advertisements," Maken's advocate Vikas Singh said.
The Supreme Court had earlier ruled that only photographs of the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice can be used for government advertisements which are being paid for by public funds.
Maken had alleged that the Delhi Government was misusing public funds to promote the Chief Minister and also violating the Supreme Court guidelines on the same.
He also sought a direction from the court restraining the government from publishing advertisements, including audio-visual and the ones on television.
