New Delhi: Indian government on Thursday expressed extreme disappointment after Pakistan's Lahore High Court ordered immediate release of 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.

Saying that the release of Lakhvi was extremely disappointing, the Indian government asked Pakistan to ensure terrorists like him do not come out of jail.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra criticised the neighbouring country and said Pakistan is not serious about combating terrorism.

Reacting to the court's order on Lakhvi, Congress leader Manish Tewari attacked BJP government over laxity in the case and said, "From 2008 to 2014 did you hear of a single instance Lakhvi was either released from jail or attempt was made to release him?"

Responding on the setting aside of the detention order, MEA spokesperson said, "Our concerns on the issue have been made known to the government of Pakistan in the past. These should be reiterated. The fact is knowns terrorists not being effectively prosecuted constitutes a real security threat to India and the world. This also erodes the value of assurance repeatedly conveyed to us in regard to cross border terrorism."

The Lahore High Court suspended Lakhvi's detention under Maintenance of Public Order after the government failed to produce satisfactory sensitive records of the former LeT operations commander.

The release order was issued by Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq of the Lahore High Court two days after he had directed the Punjab government to prepare a record of “secret documents and activities of Lakhvi" and submit it by April 9, that is today.
